The project initially involved creating an elearning course to help 3000 volunteers prepare for manning the November 2012 Skills Show event at the Birmingham NEC. The main focus was on familiarising volunteers with activities that visitors could become involved in whilst demonstrating the responsibilities and etiquette expected of them. An interactive map of the entire floor-plan was included as a visual aid to “finding your way around”.
The course was integrated into The Skills Show’s bespoke client registration platform and rolled out to volunteers throughout the autumn.
The success of the project lead to me becoming the project lead in developing an enhanced version for the 2013 show. This time, a male and female character were introduced as sidekicks. Emphasis on responsibilities and etiquette was also increased.
